Tar & Chip

A durable, cost-effective alternative to traditional asphalt paving.

Overview

Tar and chip surfacing—also known as chip seal—is a time-tested paving method that combines hot liquid asphalt with layers of crushed stone aggregate. The result is a textured, natural-looking surface that offers excellent traction, durability, and a rustic appearance that blends well with rural and suburban environments. County Asphalt Solutions provides expert tar and chip services throughout California, Oregon, and Washington — from Sacramento and Fresno to Portland, Eugene, Seattle, and Tacoma.

Our Process

1

Site Preparation

We inspect and prepare the existing surface, repairing any cracks, potholes, or drainage issues.

2

Hot Asphalt Application

A layer of heated liquid asphalt binder is evenly sprayed over the prepared surface.

3

Aggregate Spreading

Clean, crushed stone chips are spread uniformly over the hot asphalt using specialized equipment.

4

Rolling & Compaction

Heavy rollers press the aggregate firmly into the asphalt binder to create a solid bond.

5

Curing & Cleanup

The surface cures naturally. Loose stones are swept away, leaving a smooth, durable finish.
